Tyler Shay Burnett

Tyler Shay Burnett, 35, was born on October 1, 1990, in Arkansas and was raised in Seagoville, Texas. Tyler passed away unexpectedly on September 13, 2026, as the result of a tragic vehicle accident. His loss came far too soon and has left a space that will be deeply felt by everyone who knew and loved him.

Tyler was the son of Brenda Kay Thomasson and Gary Burnett and the little big brother of Brandy Raye Cumbie. He shared 15 years of his life with his wife, Jamie Darlene, and was the father of Peyton Shay and Mason Lee Cordale Burnett, both of whom held the most important place in his heart.

Tyler was always down for a good time and could turn just about anything into one. He loved to aggravate, pick, joke, and get a reaction out of people, usually with a grin that let you know he knew exactly what he was doing. He was a country boy through and through, loved having a truck, and if Tyler was behind the wheel, there was a good chance the country music was turned up loud enough for everyone else to hear it too. He also loved being on the back of a horse, a place where he said he felt free. There was something about riding that gave him a sense of peace and freedom that meant a great deal to him. And when the music was right, Tyler loved being out on the dance floor, letting loose, having fun, and enjoying the moment.

Tyler was also the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back although, if you knew Tyler, you also know there was a pretty good chance he wasn’t wearing one to begin with.

He had a huge heart, a stubborn streak, and a fierce loyalty to the people he loved. If somebody he cared about needed defending, Tyler was ready before anyone had even finished explaining what happened. He loved hard, laughed loud, and made sure life was never boring when he was around.

Tyler made mistakes in life, just like we all do, but nothing ever changed the size of his heart. His life was not perfect, but it was his, and he was deeply loved through every chapter of it. Through every season, his kindness, generosity, loyalty, and love for the people he cared about remained a part of who he was.

Tyler was blessed with many friendships throughout his life and cared deeply for the people he called his friends. To Tyler, family was not always defined by blood alone. It was also defined by loyalty, love, shared memories, and the people who became part of his life along the way. He had a way of forming lasting bonds, and many of those friendships became family to him.

Tyler will be remembered for his laughter, his country-boy spirit, his loyalty, his big heart, his loud music, his love of a good truck, the freedom he found on the back of a horse, the way he could cut loose on the dance floor, and his ability to turn an ordinary moment into a memory. Those who knew him best will remember the aggravating, the joking, the stubbornness, the good times, the loyalty, and most of all, the heart behind it all.

Tyler is survived by his wife, Jamie Gregory; his mother, Brenda Thomasson, and her wife, Teri Knight; his father, Gary Burnett; his sister, Brandy Cumbie; his children, Peyton and Mason Burnett; and his grandfather, Joe Thomasson.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Owen, and his grandparents, W.A. and Shirley Burnett.

As we say goodbye to Tyler, we hold tightly to the words of his favorite verse Romans 8:31:

“If God be for us, who can be against us?”

In a time when there are more questions than answers and a loss that feels far too heavy, these words remind us that God is still present. Even through the heartbreak, grief, and difficult days ahead, we can trust that His love remains steady and that He will give us strength when ours feels gone.

Though we wish more than anything that Tyler had been given more time here with the people who loved him, his story will not be measured only by the day he left us. His story will live on in Peyton and Mason, in the family and friends who loved him, in the stories that will continue to be told, in the laughter he gave us, and in memories that can never be taken away.

So as we grieve, we choose to hold on to our faith, to one another, and to the promise that even in our darkest moments, God has not left us.

“If God be for us, who can be against us?”

Tyler will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

He left us far too soon, but definitely not quietly.
